I recently repurchased an old favourite, my Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation (seriously only $11 CAD). Its super light weight yet manages to cover anything I need it too, all while making me look so refreshed. It is very affordable as foundations go and is convenient to pick up most places. It also has a pump which I love, so easy to proportion the amount of foundation used. It’s description states: “Our first liquid foundation that visibly reawakens and illuminates skin with a radiant glow and a flawless, natural-looking finish. Visible anti-fatigue effect. With peptides and a Vitamin Moisturizing Complex.” and it’s very true. Definitely one of my favourite drugstore finds.
I posted on Instagram a picture of me with a full face of makeup that I did for Easter gatherings and asked if anyone would like to know how I did it – so here it is!
Let’s break it down into parts: eyes, lips, face
Eyes – I used a tarte palette (tarlette in bloom) but I basically used a light brown all over and a slightly darker brown in the crease. I didn’t want a sharp line so I didn’t use tape to cut it (favourite trick for a sharp edge). And BLEND. The best part and it creates a soft effect. I then used my skinny eyeliner by Marc Jacobs (Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner). I make dots along my lash line, and then just connect the dots! And I used my Voluminous L’Oreal mascara – a classic favourite.
Lips – Simple. Chapstick. I love Nivea.
Face – I started with my Clinique Moisturizer (moisture surge extended thirst relief), and then my Estée Lauder serum (Idealist) and then my foundation – double wear by Estée Lauder. So good, I have done a review on it and I loved it. I don’t usually conceal I just build up coverage where I need it, which is a great product feature of the double wear. Then I set with powder, I used Rimmel Stay Matte.
I don’t always do a full face, I’m usually a 10 minutes and out the door girl but this was super easy and made me feel great (hence the selfie).
Back to the good old roots of budget friendly yet good quality. I found this Stay Matte Mousse Foundation by Rimmel and it is great! It can be risky with mousse and oily skin to not look glowing but shinning. This claims to be a lightweight shine control foundation – bonus points.
Before: As you can see my skin naturally shines, and is acne prone with some under eye circles (not severe but there). I look for in a foundation, one that covers acne, controls the oil and stays put.
I have found this in my $8 CAD purchase.
This is purely foundation and mascara. No blush, bronzer, powder, anything. As you can clearly see it covers quite well and keeps the shine away. As I wore it through the day, I did add some powder and found no issues. There was a little under eye loss of product but nothing major or devastating.
Hello ! Ok so getting right back into it – it’s thanksgiving in Canada and soon to be America. So here was my full face of products to look amazing and flawless.
I start with my Estée Lauder Idealist Pore Minimizing Serum and layer my everyday moisturizer on top. I then go in with my Tartelette palette by Tarte and use lots of browns, nudes, and of course some gold or silver. I then exfoliate my lips with a tooth brush to get off dead skin and apply some lip balm (I love blistex). As I’m letting this soak in I then move onto my face. For a flawless but buildable look I use the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation. It’s incredible (I did a review previously). I’m using a new powder by Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin pressed powder. This has some coverage as well, which is great as my acne-prone skin is breaking out with all the turkey, stuffing and ham happening. I then touch up with some Mac Bronzer and finish with some highlight. I love the Clinique powder, no I have not been able to find it again – I place it only on my under eyes instead of concealer. It does not crease or slide off by the end of the night. I finished with some liner by Rimmel and a dark burgundy lipstick. And finally my love of mascara Voluminous by L’Oreal. I set everything with my L’Oreal Infallible finishing spray.
This routine for my oily skin not only provides non-cakey coverage but lasting coverage and gives me confidence for all the lunches and dinners that come with holidays.
If you have been following my posts, or even just skimmed through, you’ll know I am on a budget and really like to save money. I also have posted before that I am prone to acne (even in adulthood) and tend to have more oily skin. So let’s just state: I love matte finishes.
I was trying to think of something I use that I really loved and have been using a long time, and I instantly thought of the Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder. It is literally $9.
It can look a bit heavy if you really pack it on, but used in the right manner it is outstanding. It leaves a smooth matte finish, and is even ok to reapply once later in the day for touch ups. It’s compact so easy to bring on the go. Definitely a winner and one of my staples.
