Birthday Full Face Makeup Routine*

Hello again!

So I recently turned 23 and although I don’t wear makeup often, it was fun to do it in full for this occasion.

Let’s get into it.

I started with my Clinique moisture surge moisturizer (not imaged above), and followed up with my Estée Lauder Idealist Serum. I then went in with my Tartelette in bloom eye shadow palette – that I am absolutely still obsessed with.

712-alt-2 I went in with a shimmery light nude (first column, third row) and followed into the corner of my eye with a red-ish brown (fourth column, third row). I blended out with a more matted brown (second column, first row) and highlighted with a nice light shimmer (third column, first row).

I went into the corner of my eye with the NYX wonder pencil to really make it look open and pop.

I then buffed in my BareMinerals Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer, and covered dark circles and blemishes with my Clinique Beyond Perfecting powder foundation. I love this combination because it is medium coverage yet still looks light and airy.

I finally finished with L’Oreals new Voluminous lash primer (amazing) and topped it with their original black Voluminous mascara. And yes – I completely forgot to take a picture of my finished face.

Overall, this makeup made me feel confident, fresh, put together and I had fun doing it.

Review: Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara

Back to the good, reliable drugstore mascaras. I do love the high end ideas, but for me mascara is mascara – I struggle to spend over $20 on it. I picked this little beauty up at Winners for about $7 CAD.

I like my lashes to be dark, thick and long. This does it for me. The only downside is that’s about 2 or 3 coats in. Which is fine by me, but if you have sensitive eyes may be an issue.

I also find it doesn’t clump instantly which is a huge bonus, and does last most of the day. It is not however waterproof – so no tears. But this does make it very easy to take off. I do my regular makeup remover wipes and some cleanser and problem solved; mascara gone.

Overall I give it 4/5 thumbs up.

The Work Grind // Can I Just Stay In Bed?

So clearly I have been a little overwhelmed with life. But who of us hasn’t ever reached that point?

Today I have an evening shift – woo! Yes that means I got to sleep in, get my nails done and hang with my dog. Who could ask for more?

Nails I usually keep nude, but went with a grey/purple and am obsessed. Even though they show on camera as a darker purple.

I’m going to be posting some reviews soon, but will being doing a full face of makeup for work. Sometimes it’s just the kick a girl needs. I purchased a $6 CAD mascara and love it (Revlon). And am still swapping through foundations. Lighter coverage days I use my BB cream from Marcelle, mixed with my Kat Von D lock it foundation. And full coverage days I’m still obsessed with my double-wear foundation from Estée Lauder.

I’m thinking out loud here, but I have a couple “hacks” or my makeup tricks for longer lasting makeup – would you guys be interested in that? Let me know!

Also I am so passionate about mental health and know I previously touched on it in my last post – feelings? We can talk about it here.

Ok guys enough rambling for me, let me know if you’re interested in the above ideas by liking or commenting (I love talking).

Winged Eyeliner Revamped

I previously did a post about how to do the perfect winged liner, now its time to step it up and review some handy liners that actually don’t make your life difficult.

My first step in this process was tight lining with the Marc Jacobs liner. It is small and compact and allows for a fine line. It is also very workable and easy to fix mistakes with a quick q-tip swipe. After this I used the thicker Maybelline liner. I sometimes struggle with the thickness in creating a finer line, but paired up with the Marc Jacobs in order to extend into a wing – is excellent.

The textures are creamy, and thicker making it not likely to slide off your face when oil or water comes into play. Although not water proof they have both proven to be durable. The Marc Jacobs liner usually retails around $31 CAD and the Maybelline is under $10 CAD.

What’s great about the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner by Marc Jacobs is it comes in your basic blacks and browns and then fun colours like purple and blue. This to me is an added bonus.

Stay Matte and Flawless with $8

Back to the good old roots of budget friendly yet good quality. I found this Stay Matte Mousse Foundation by Rimmel and it is great! It can be risky with mousse and oily skin to not look glowing but shinning. This claims to be a lightweight shine control foundation – bonus points.

img_8159  Before: As you can see my skin naturally shines, and is acne prone with some under eye circles (not severe but there). I look for in a foundation, one that covers acne, controls the oil and stays put.

I have found this in my $8 CAD purchase.

This is purely foundation and mascara. No blush, bronzer, powder, anything. As you can clearly see it covers quite well and keeps the shine away. As I wore it through the day, I did add some powder and found no issues. There was a little under eye loss of product but nothing major or devastating.

Overall, 4/5 thumbs up.

Holiday Full Face

Hello ! Ok so getting right back into it – it’s thanksgiving in Canada and soon to be America. So here was my full face of products to look amazing and flawless.

I start with my Estée Lauder Idealist Pore Minimizing Serum and layer my everyday moisturizer on top. I then go in with my Tartelette palette by Tarte and use lots of browns, nudes, and of course some gold or silver. I then exfoliate my lips with a tooth brush to get off dead skin and apply some lip balm (I love blistex). As I’m letting this soak in I then move onto my face. For a flawless but buildable look I use the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation. It’s incredible (I did a review previously). I’m using a new powder by Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin pressed powder. This has some coverage as well, which is great as my acne-prone skin is breaking out with all the turkey, stuffing and ham happening. I then touch up with some Mac Bronzer and finish with some highlight. I love the Clinique powder, no I have not been able to find it again – I place it only on my under eyes instead of concealer. It does not crease or slide off by the end of the night. I finished with some liner by Rimmel and a dark burgundy lipstick. And finally my love of mascara Voluminous by L’Oreal. I set everything with my L’Oreal Infallible finishing spray.

This routine for my oily skin not only provides non-cakey coverage but lasting coverage and gives me confidence for all the lunches and dinners that come with holidays.

It’s all about you and the pamper.

So lately I have not been actively blogging (and I’m sorry) but I’ve come into some health issues and the best advice I’m finally taking is sometimes ‘it’s all about you’. So I’ve taken the last little while to focus on priority matters and focus on myself. This has come to me re-taking up yoga, and walking a bit more. Spending time with friends and family and of course and mostly at home with my dog. So what’s some pampering I’ve picked up? Here’s a list.

  1. face masks – are amazing, and fun to experiment with.
  2. bathes – not only good for a sore body and stress relief, but with some scented bubble bath; winning combination.
  3. comfy clothes – sometimes it’s nice not to stress about what you’re wearing and some yoga pants and a long t-shirt go a long way.
  4. yoga – good for the body and mind.
  5. meditation – the just re-centres me and allows me to truly focus on how I’m feeling and let’s me breathe
  6. no makeup – now I know not everyone is comfortable but you should try it, it is freeing.

Any other suggestions I’m missing? Let me know
