I can’t believe I’m saying this – but I love running. It is hard, very hard, but so rewarding at the same time. I run in a group which helps when I feel like I can’t go on, and it keeps me active. I’m going on my third week of this new passion of mine, and I haven’t missed a day yet (I run 3x a week).
I got a nice pair of running shoes, the Under Armour Bandits 2 and they are actually great. They have good support, and a fair bit of cushion which is extra helpful for my achey joints. Plus they look amazing.
My first couple of runs I didn’t track but I’m using an app called “Runkeeper” now and it’s also great. It gives me my time run, distance, pace, and elevation. So far my longest run has been 2.21 km (about 1.4 miles) and it was just under 10 min per km. So no I am not fast at all, but I do it – I run.
I love learning about running and better techniques, so if you have any tips or input let me know!
So I took a break for the last little while because I’ve been struggling. Struggling with joy, happiness and loving myself. But I am back with a fight in me.
I’ve touched on it briefly before but I deal with bipolar disorder, and anxiety. Usually I can kick it’s butt but sometimes like everyone I have it kick mine. So my point? I started a side blog. It will track my daily dealings with my mental health, my improvements in physical health and it is pretty much an open journal to what makes me happy and better.
I will absolutely be back on the horse with these postings, but if you want to check in on my journey my blog is https://bepositivelyloved.wordpress.com/
Everyone deserves happiness, sometimes you just have to fight for it.
So I recently turned 23 and although I don’t wear makeup often, it was fun to do it in full for this occasion.
Let’s get into it.
I started with my Clinique moisture surge moisturizer (not imaged above), and followed up with my Estée Lauder Idealist Serum. I then went in with my Tartelette in bloom eye shadow palette – that I am absolutely still obsessed with.
I went in with a shimmery light nude (first column, third row) and followed into the corner of my eye with a red-ish brown (fourth column, third row). I blended out with a more matted brown (second column, first row) and highlighted with a nice light shimmer (third column, first row).
I went into the corner of my eye with the NYX wonder pencil to really make it look open and pop.
I then buffed in my BareMinerals Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer, and covered dark circles and blemishes with my Clinique Beyond Perfecting powder foundation. I love this combination because it is medium coverage yet still looks light and airy.
I finally finished with L’Oreals new Voluminous lash primer (amazing) and topped it with their original black Voluminous mascara. And yes – I completely forgot to take a picture of my finished face.
Overall, this makeup made me feel confident, fresh, put together and I had fun doing it.
Where I live has had rain for the last 2 days – and I mean constant dripping where everything is soaked and some bodies of water are flooding – and we will continue to have rain for a couple more days.
So what do you do when it rains as an adult?
Sure you can absolutely go jump in the puddles, but it’s cold out and I don’t want to be any sicker than I am already.
So here is my list for your rainy, cold days:
Run errands. Today is a great day to drive to where you need to go, spend time in let’s say the grocery store and check off the list that seems to be growing. You will be inside most of the time and you are honestly not missing any nice weather opportunities.
Cook/Bake. Make some treats or a fancy meal for yourself or others. I plan to make some chicken and veggies tonight but I bought some items to make my own marinade. Simple, time consuming and yummy.
Clean. Not a huge fan of this option, but some people (you know who you are) apparently love cleaning? So this is the time! Just like errand running – it checks your items off the list and you’re not really missing out.
Indoor sports. I love golfing as of late, so why not go to an indoor range?
Catch up with a friend. Reach out and be social, sometimes it’s nice to cozy up alone but the dreary weather gets to most people – so go warm up with a friend with some coffee and a chat.
Read. Go to the store and pick up something you’ve really wanted to read or dig out an old book. Curl up with a beverage of your choice and relax.
It is 11:48 AM. And ladies and gentlemen – I feel so productive.
This morning I deep cleaned my car, which trust me, was very needed. I got a car wash, filled up washer fluid, filled up gas, cleaned the interior, vacuumed, and washed the windows. I had coffee with family, and listened to an uplifting spiritual podcast. This was not only productive, but included self care.
Self care is something I am continuously working on, sometimes it doesn’t exist in my life and sometimes it is in full force. When it is in full force, I feel like I can handle anything. A little self-care in the morning sets you up right for your day, and it is really so individual. Some like the gym at 4:30 AM, some like to wake up and pray, or cook breakfast or meditate. There is seriously so much variety and no WRONG way of doing self-care.
My personal favourites are waking up and listening to a podcast as I wake up and stretch. If I can I will scroll through Pinterest for some bible verses that uplift me or read over some I’ve written down for myself. I cuddle with my dog and make tea (currently cannot do coffee because of acid reflux – it has been an adjustment). Sometimes I will do a little clean of the kitchen for instance, and then settle in and figure out what I need to do for the day. I’ll check my calendar app for major things I’ve written to remember and then go from there. Ideally I would love to do yoga every morning, but sometimes that just doesn’t happen. Self-care is what works for you, it is not a judgement activity.
What are some of your favourite self-care that is realistic for you?
My first semester back at school is finally finished and it is summer! But I have come to love a new product that has me out of the door in 5 minutes or less and provides just enough coverage that my skin is natural but a little livelier.
I suffer from acne, and this does not cover it. But as I get older I am embracing my “flaws” that in reality are not really flaws at all. This powder foundation keeps me non-shiny and oil-free which is great for my skin type. It is so light and refreshing. It prides itself on being non pore clogging and I could not agree more!
It retails at about $35 CAD – which in hindsight for a higher end product is not bad at all. As a bonus the packaging is super sleek and makes me feel very sophisticated (and who doesn’t love that?)
I have been gone and hiding behind a textbook for the last little while. I am in my last 2 weeks of my first semester of practical nursing – I am obsessed with my future profession. But holy cow is it work.
I miss writing and my outlet though and wanted to take a me moment to really embrace some of my passions that centre me.
How are you doing in loving yourself today?
I have been back into meditation and I am actually eating better. The working out thing still needs improvement but there are very few who have perfected this trifecta. I will be back soon though with some reviews and routines and collections.
