Birthday Full Face Makeup Routine*

Hello again!

So I recently turned 23 and although I don’t wear makeup often, it was fun to do it in full for this occasion.

Let’s get into it.

I started with my Clinique moisture surge moisturizer (not imaged above), and followed up with my Estée Lauder Idealist Serum. I then went in with my Tartelette in bloom eye shadow palette – that I am absolutely still obsessed with.

712-alt-2 I went in with a shimmery light nude (first column, third row) and followed into the corner of my eye with a red-ish brown (fourth column, third row). I blended out with a more matted brown (second column, first row) and highlighted with a nice light shimmer (third column, first row).

I went into the corner of my eye with the NYX wonder pencil to really make it look open and pop.

I then buffed in my BareMinerals Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer, and covered dark circles and blemishes with my Clinique Beyond Perfecting powder foundation. I love this combination because it is medium coverage yet still looks light and airy.

I finally finished with L’Oreals new Voluminous lash primer (amazing) and topped it with their original black Voluminous mascara. And yes – I completely forgot to take a picture of my finished face.

Overall, this makeup made me feel confident, fresh, put together and I had fun doing it.

Full Face Routine

I posted on Instagram a picture of me with a full face of makeup that I did for Easter gatherings and asked if anyone would like to know how I did it – so here it is!

Let’s break it down into parts: eyes, lips, face

  1. Eyes – I used a tarte palette (tarlette in bloom) but I basically used a light brown all over and a slightly darker brown in the crease. I didn’t want a sharp line so I didn’t use tape to cut it (favourite trick for a sharp edge). And BLEND. The best part and it creates a soft effect. I then used my skinny eyeliner by Marc Jacobs (Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner). I make dots along my lash line, and then just connect the dots! And I used my Voluminous L’Oreal mascara – a classic favourite.
  2. Lips – Simple. Chapstick. I love Nivea.
  3. Face – I started with my Clinique Moisturizer (moisture surge extended thirst relief), and then my Estée Lauder serum (Idealist) and then my foundation – double wear by Estée Lauder. So good, I have done a review on it and I loved it. I don’t usually conceal I just build up coverage where I need it, which is a great product feature of the double wear. Then I set with powder, I used Rimmel Stay Matte.

I don’t always do a full face, I’m usually a 10 minutes and out the door girl but this was super easy and made me feel great (hence the selfie).

Let me know what you think!

Simple Fall Look

Red lip? Check. Winged liner? Check. Warm eyeshadows, and a glow? Check and Check.

This is my simple fall look, still slightly sun-kissed but ready for the fall season.

First I wash my face, and prep with my Neutrogena Moisturizer that’s oil free.

Then for the eyes I use small pieces of tape to define a winged edge from the outer corner of my eye to the end of my eyebrow. I used my Walmart branded Natural Eyes palette which is always extremely pigmented and worth $8 CAD. You can use any palette I just used a light brown as a base and layered on the outer corner some darker browns and blended it all out with a shimmery taupe.  I then go in with my Estée Lauder Idealist face primer to minimize pores. And today I decided to use an old favourite, my L’Oreal True Match in Classic Ivory (N2).

To finish up I use my lovely Marc Jacobs sample (216, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), and dust some MAC bronzer over my nose, forehead edge and cheek hollows. To complete the look on my cheek bones I lightly apply highlighter, this one is Lumi by L’Oreal.

Holiday Full Face

Hello ! Ok so getting right back into it – it’s thanksgiving in Canada and soon to be America. So here was my full face of products to look amazing and flawless.

I start with my Estée Lauder Idealist Pore Minimizing Serum and layer my everyday moisturizer on top. I then go in with my Tartelette palette by Tarte and use lots of browns, nudes, and of course some gold or silver. I then exfoliate my lips with a tooth brush to get off dead skin and apply some lip balm (I love blistex). As I’m letting this soak in I then move onto my face. For a flawless but buildable look I use the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation. It’s incredible (I did a review previously). I’m using a new powder by Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin pressed powder. This has some coverage as well, which is great as my acne-prone skin is breaking out with all the turkey, stuffing and ham happening. I then touch up with some Mac Bronzer and finish with some highlight. I love the Clinique powder, no I have not been able to find it again – I place it only on my under eyes instead of concealer. It does not crease or slide off by the end of the night. I finished with some liner by Rimmel and a dark burgundy lipstick. And finally my love of mascara Voluminous by L’Oreal. I set everything with my L’Oreal Infallible finishing spray.

This routine for my oily skin not only provides non-cakey coverage but lasting coverage and gives me confidence for all the lunches and dinners that come with holidays.

Estée Lauder Review

Now I know I’m usually about the affordable but decent makeup products – however as I age and with some troubling skin I know sometimes we need to invest in better quality makeup and skincare that we use. For the last month I have been using the Estée Lauder Idealist (Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher) and the Double Wear (Stay-in-Place) Foundation.  The refinisher runs about $70 CAD and the foundation is about $45 CAD.

Now I know $70 seems like a lot for a face serum but this is magical. It does not break me out even if used all day with makeup, it smoothes my pores, feels so fresh and clean on my skin (not heavy or thick), and makes my face glow in the perfect non-oily way. Although perfectly paired with the foundation, I even use it with my drugstore brands and it still enhances all the good qualities. You put in on before moisturizer and it helps absorb right into the skin. Trust me it’s a great investment because a little drop goes a long way.

Now for the foundation – also incredible. Same idea where a little drop goes a long way, and that makes me feel like my money is well spent not only on quantity but quality. It claims to be long-wearing and last up to 15 hours, now I don’t usually have makeup on that long but because I sweat and have oily skin this is a great offer for me. It is non-transferable, meaning once it’s on and set, I’m not going to put on a baseball cap and have that everlasting makeup stain mark from my forehead. Another perk is the multitude of shades that it comes in. It is a medium coverage but very buildable and has a semi-matte finish which is great for me. It doesn’t leave dry spots looking flakey or oily spots looking slick. My favourite bonus is that it’s oil-free and fragrance-free so no smelly makeup and longer lasting yet again.

Overall, I give both of these a 5/5.
