Birthday Full Face Makeup Routine*

Hello again!

So I recently turned 23 and although I don’t wear makeup often, it was fun to do it in full for this occasion.

Let’s get into it.

I started with my Clinique moisture surge moisturizer (not imaged above), and followed up with my Estée Lauder Idealist Serum. I then went in with my Tartelette in bloom eye shadow palette – that I am absolutely still obsessed with.

712-alt-2 I went in with a shimmery light nude (first column, third row) and followed into the corner of my eye with a red-ish brown (fourth column, third row). I blended out with a more matted brown (second column, first row) and highlighted with a nice light shimmer (third column, first row).

I went into the corner of my eye with the NYX wonder pencil to really make it look open and pop.

I then buffed in my BareMinerals Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer, and covered dark circles and blemishes with my Clinique Beyond Perfecting powder foundation. I love this combination because it is medium coverage yet still looks light and airy.

I finally finished with L’Oreals new Voluminous lash primer (amazing) and topped it with their original black Voluminous mascara. And yes – I completely forgot to take a picture of my finished face.

Overall, this makeup made me feel confident, fresh, put together and I had fun doing it.

Review: BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream

I will admit, I have bought more makeup than I need in the last week. But I have a new favourite – the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream (all in all, a tinted moisturizer). It can be found at Sephora for about $37 CAD. A little pricey but you get 1.18 oz over the usually 1 oz and a little goes a long way – not to mention for higher end beauty products this is quite affordable.

The cream is said to give coverage with skin care benefits and be parabens free. It is hypoallergenic, so great for sensitivity, and has  no oil or fragrance in it – which is huge for me because my skin breaks out so easily with any irritants.

It only comes in 10 shades, but Sephora matched me to my best choice and I have to say it went on flawlessly and smoothly. It was low coverage but did hide some of the redness from my acne. It made me glow and feel beautiful. It did feel like it was hydrating my skin, but I also used a moisturizer before hand.

It gives a very natural finish but with a little boost. Overall, I love it and will absolutely re-buy.

Full Face Routine

I posted on Instagram a picture of me with a full face of makeup that I did for Easter gatherings and asked if anyone would like to know how I did it – so here it is!

image_01

Let’s break it down into parts: eyes, lips, face

  1. Eyes – I used a tarte palette (tarlette in bloom) but I basically used a light brown all over and a slightly darker brown in the crease. I didn’t want a sharp line so I didn’t use tape to cut it (favourite trick for a sharp edge). And BLEND. The best part and it creates a soft effect. I then used my skinny eyeliner by Marc Jacobs (Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner). I make dots along my lash line, and then just connect the dots! And I used my Voluminous L’Oreal mascara – a classic favourite.
  2. Lips – Simple. Chapstick. I love Nivea.
  3. Face – I started with my Clinique Moisturizer (moisture surge extended thirst relief), and then my Estée Lauder serum (Idealist) and then my foundation – double wear by Estée Lauder. So good, I have done a review on it and I loved it. I don’t usually conceal I just build up coverage where I need it, which is a great product feature of the double wear. Then I set with powder, I used Rimmel Stay Matte.

I don’t always do a full face, I’m usually a 10 minutes and out the door girl but this was super easy and made me feel great (hence the selfie).

Let me know what you think!

Review: Beyond Perfecting Powder Foundation + Concealer *Clinique*

My first semester back at school is finally finished and it is summer! But I have come to love a new product that has me out of the door in 5 minutes or less and provides just enough coverage that my skin is natural but a little livelier.

I suffer from acne, and this does not cover it. But as I get older I am embracing my “flaws” that in reality are not really flaws at all. This powder foundation keeps me non-shiny and oil-free which is great for my skin type. It is so light and refreshing. It prides itself on being non pore clogging and I could not agree more!

It retails at about $35 CAD – which in hindsight for a higher end product is not bad at all. As a bonus the packaging is super sleek and makes me feel very sophisticated (and who doesn’t love that?)

Should You Get a Tattoo?

Warning: they are permanent.

That being said, I am a tattoo supporter. I have quite a collection of my own and love every single one. The one I got when I was 16 and the one I got today – and everything in between. I make a joke that they are permanent, but the truth is this is a huge factor. You need to do research and planning before deciding on something like this. So I thought I could give some tips and ideas to help out.

  1. What moves you? What as a deep purpose or value in your life?
  2. Why do you want this on your body?

The two first questions are essential. Even if the answer is I love art, so I want an artistic piece on me – that’s a reason. Love it. Be able to own anything you decide on, people will always make comments and question you but if you love it – who cares?

3. Research styles

4. Research tattoo artists

5. Research symbols, quotes, meanings (anything you want that will sit well with you)

6. Talk to an artist that you trust or like their work, not all will be a great personality, but you will find someone you mesh with and ask them their opinions*

*Asking opinions is a great way to learn and find what works on your body and where, but if you love something and how it is do not be afraid to stick up for that*

7. Figure out finances. A lot of legitimate shops have a minimum fee ranging for $60+. This is essentially for a brand new needle and sterile environment. But if you have questions just ask. Tattoos can be quite expensive, some charge for the size, most charge by the hour. Colour is more expensive than black or shading. Ask, ask, ask.

In the end, don’t rush into anything. Never be afraid to ask. And just plan accordingly.

One of my favourite quotes goes like this “Hey, my body is a temple too. It just has stained glass windows.”

Any questions feel free and welcome to comment or e-mail and I will totally answer !

Roc Enydrial Repairing Lip Care Review

Hey again, I’m back.

I went away for a week and then had to play catch up in school. But I am back.

Vacation was lovely, but when I came back my lips experienced something new for me; raw, red and cracked. It was horrible, and even my side creases were cracking – quite painful if you have never experienced this before. So I went into Shoppers to see if they had a remedy (I had been resorting to Nivea at night, helpful but not what I needed). One of the girls there suggested Roc, not a brand I’m very familiar with, always thought it was for much older cliental. HOWEVER, this is not the case. They have some really amazing products that are meant to heal the skin and infuse it with moisture. I tried the Roc Enydrial Repairing Lip Care balm (I think they refer to it as a lipstick but it is definitely more of a balm). I’m obsessed.

This is what their website says

“helps reduce 44% of lip dryness. Its formula protects and moisturizes dry, chapped or damaged lips…Formulated to minimise the risk of allergies…Non comedogenic [meaning doesn’t clog up pores]”

To me this all sounded great. And after using it for literally only 2 days, my lips are far from what they were – so I believe the claims.

It was a little much for a lip balm, but if you read into what you are getting, and understand that there is much more helpful and useful ingredients in this than something like lip smackers, the $7 CAD is worth it.

Overall love this product and will re-buy.

Benefits of Açaí We Actually Care About

I am on a mission to get healthier and lose weight. Some strategies for me, include eating breakfast – a healthy breakfast. So I made coffee (a necessity) and a big fruit smoothie with açaí added in. I hear a lot of benefits about this fashionable ingredient and a lot of “myths”; but what is actually important and seemingly real?

#1. Heart Helpful – Because it is so high in antioxidants it is bound to have helpful effects but in this case it aids in lowering cholesterol which in turn helps your heart not work as hard and overall keep cleaner.

#2. Digestion aid – Again because of the antioxidants, they have a good ability to aid in digestion due to being nutrient rich and high in fiber (and we all know fiber is helpful for many things).

#3. Immunity helper – It is high in that Vitamin C and ellagic acid which is said to be a dueling combo that helps boost your immune system. It is not a replacement for medicine if you are sick but can help prevent a cold coming on, instead of maybe your high sugar orange juice.

#4. Energy – Because it is overall a healthy supplement, it can lead to an increase in energy and stamina. I can attribute to this because of my large smoothie I’m drinking at the moment and feeling wonderful.

This is my main thoughts I’ve researched and feel are said to be true. Just like any other fruit or supplement there are pro’s but not miracle workings. So just be educated in what you consume and keep positive in finding solutions for you.
