Review: L’Oreal Pure Clay Mask – Comforting and Unifying

I usually buy the cheap “3 for $5” masks from my drugstore, and they’re fine and fun. But I wanted to look into nicer masks that I can use a couple times a week and really see the benefits. I keep seeing commercials and advertisements for the new L’Oreal masks and finally purchased one (about $14 CAD) – which really isn’t that bad.

What it claims: “Immediately: Skin looks refreshed and feels comfortable” & “skin needs cleaning that is effective yet gentle and non-irritating. This Pure-Clay Mask addresses your concerns for comforted and unified skin”

I have stated before but I have oily, acne prone skin. I have had a handle on it lately, but with the cold of winter (thanks Canada), my skin gets angrier. So I lathered on a layer and gave it a go. I put a thin layer on my face (avoiding eye and mouth) and wait about 10-15 minutes. So I put it on and watch YouTube videos on my phone and relax. It was a pretty simple wash off, none of that sticking and stuck on issues. The only thing is it’s messy and blue and will tint whatever you’re using to take it off.

My skin definitely felt refreshed and less irritated and it was a fun, pampering process. It suggests to use it twice a week so I’ll keep trying it out and let you guys know if anything amazing happens. Here’s me with it on (enjoy).

Ultra Moisturizing Face Skin Care

I live in Canada. Our average temperature lately has been -25C (-13F) and with windchill -35C (-31F). So it’s been cold.

I usually have oily prone skin but even this weather has been drying me out and leaving behind that tight, red, angry skin. So I made a little self-care, skin-care routine.

I usually use the regular Neutrogena makeup wipes but found these night time calming ones. I then go in with a calming clay mask, which feels so refreshing and light on the skin.

I love love love my Blistex balm for my lips.

After I still use toner because regardless of dryness I’m prone to acne so I use this Clean and Clear one.

I then had a sample from Sephora I’ve been trying out and it’s the Estée Lauder advanced night repair. It’s so silky feeling and doesn’t leave residue. It is simply refreshing and hasn’t broken me out!

My last step is going in with an under eye gel. The one I’ve been using is Skin Lab eye gel. Not only is it helping to keep the moisture in my skin, but reduces my puffy dark circles.

Overall, this has significantly helped keep my skincare stay simple but effective. Even when I have to brave the cold!

Simple Holiday Look ~

I know this time of year is crazy for most people, so I like to simplify my makeup look all while still feeling pretty and pulled together. I know it may look like a lot, but it is so quick and to the point that you could pretty much be out the door in 20 minutes.

Throw on some christmas music and off we go!

I started with moisturizing my lips and applying my pore minimizing serum. I then went in with my tinted moisturizer and blended that all out. I dabbed on a light layer of my cream eyeshadow which was a brownish metallic. I blended it out of course. I then went in with my green concealer and dabbed on some acne that popped through the tinted moisturizer. I concealed with my age rewind stick under my eyes and over those couple of acne spots. I honestly don’t mind having some show through because I like the bare face feel, but a little coverage is nice. I then went in with my palette. All over the lid I applied ‘rebel’ and dabbed ‘rocker’ into my inner corners. For some flare I added ‘firecracker’ dead center of the lid. I finished off by blending some ‘flower child’ into the crease to lighten it up and for just under the eyebrow I put ‘charmer’.

To finish off I concealed over my acne, T-zone and under eyes with my powder foundation by Clinique.

Review: Kate Somerville ‘ExfoliKate Cleanser’ – daily foaming wash

So I don’t typically invest in my face products, but with adult acne and oil prone skin I am attempting to help myself and really take the time to replenish and cleanse my face with better quality products. I started this with a trip to my local Sephora and asked around for some ideas on what would be worth a shot and what wasn’t super expensive/worth the money.

I ended up with the Kate Somerville Cleanser.

I was told it is a light exfoliate both chemically and physically. But gentle enough I could use everyday. Although this isn’t typically a problem for me because I really don’t have very sensitive skin. So I thought why not, and purchased it for $48 CAD.

The sales woman promised me I would love it and that it would help my acne tremendously. She did not lie.

This product is fantastic! I haven’t used it every day but have still have noticed major skin improvements. I would definitely recommend to friends and I will continue to use/buy. The texture feels very soft and non-irritating and there is no chemical smell.

I feel refreshed after using it and honestly like I am really caring for my skin – which is a bonus.

NYX Total Control Foundation | Review

I posted a mini haul earlier and this foundation was on my must try list. I wasn’t sure if I would love it because it’s consistency is quite liquified but I thought I’d give it a try.

It states that it is buildable coverage and one can build this up based off of how many drops you smooth over your skin. I took some pictures from 0 foundation to 3 layers of the foundation.

I love that this is so universally usable in coverage. There are days I want a barely there look and definitely days I want to be completely covered up. From left to right; starts with no foundation, 1 drop of foundation and finally a full 3 drops of foundation.

Retailing around $16 CAD is totally budget friendly for the quality that you get. A little goes a long way, and therefore you get more for your dollar. It lets you play with your look and vary on how you want to look for an individual event or day. It doesn’t leave you oily and it caused no breakouts for my acne prone skin – huge bonus.

Overall, I’d give it a 5/5 thumbs up.

Mini Beauty Haul

Ok ok I know I just posted I was saving money, but I went to my local drugstore and got too excited for these products and went ahead and purchased them. I only got 3 items but I’m still very happy.

On the left is the Smashbox Cover Shot: Softlight Palette ($35 CAD), and on the right is NYX total control foundation ($16 CAD) and Lingerie lip ($9 CAD).

Let’s start with the eyeshadow palette. I’m a big neutral girl, and as dark as I go is with brown tones. I saw this and thought it was perfect for me.

I feel like for $35, getting 8 shadows that are good quality and versatile are well worth it. IMG-2142

I think my favourites before even trying them will be – beach house, starlight and keeper.FullSizeRender

I’ll do a look with this soon.

As for the NYX lingerie lip, I got the colour ‘pushup’. It’s very neutral for me and really compliments my skin tone right now. The NYX website describes it as: ” Slip into something seductive with Lip Lingerie, our new weightless liquid lipstick with a plush matte finish. Available in a range of color-kissed nudes…each sultry shade will coat the curves of your lips with irresistibly creamy color.” Um, sounds amazing.

Last, but definitely not least the NYX foundation. I’m not sure the acutal name for the colour as I cannot find it on the box to save me, but its code is TCDF07 – I’m fairly light with a tan right now. So its a light beige roughly. The site description is: “From sheer to full, your ideal coverage is just drops away with our new Total Control Drop Foundation! Fine-tune this velvety, matte foundation with the included dropper. Simply adjust the number of drops until you create the look you’re feelin’ today. Want more coverage? Add more drops! Buff expertly using the TOTAL CONTROL DROP FOUNDATION BRUSH for a seriously smooth finish”.

I love that this gives me coverage options. It totally suits me, some days I want that #nomakeupmakeup look and some days I love my full coverage.

Overall I’m really excited to try these products out and do some looks with them. If you’ve tried any of them let me know what you think!

Throwback Favourite

I recently repurchased an old favourite, my Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation (seriously only $11 CAD). Its super light weight yet manages to cover anything I need it too, all while making me look so refreshed. It is very affordable as foundations go and is convenient to pick up most places. It also has a pump which I love, so easy to proportion the amount of foundation used. It’s description states: “Our first liquid foundation that visibly reawakens and illuminates skin with a radiant glow and a flawless, natural-looking finish. Visible anti-fatigue effect. With peptides and a Vitamin Moisturizing Complex.” and it’s very true. Definitely one of my favourite drugstore finds.
